Nutritional Counseling
Expert insight
for changing needs
Over the course of time, the dietary needs of hospice patients change. At first, your loved one might be interested in eating all his or her favorite foods — ice cream, pizza, snack foods, and more.
As time goes on and your loved one gets closer to the end of life, he or she may seem to lose interest in food or have trouble eating or drinking. This is a normal part of the process. Often at this stage nothing tastes good, and because the body is slowing down, the need for calories and the ability to digest and assimilate food changes.
At Suburban Hospice, a registered dietitian is part of our interdisciplinary team, providing ideas and suggestions on how to maximize nutrition for failing appetites. Let us know if we can help you by offering information on foods and drinks that may be helpful for your loved one during end-of-life care.
