Bereavement Care

Kind, reliable support.
The resources you need.

Here at Suburban Hospice, we care very much about the comfort and well-being of our patients and their families. The support we provide helps with all sorts of needs patients and families may have — body, mind, and spirit.

Grief is so much a part of end-of-life, and the reality is that we begin grieving long before we lose our loved ones. We grieve the way “things used to be.” We grieve having the freedom to go and do the way we always did. We grieve a thousand tiny, incremental losses — the gradual loss of memory, loss of mobility, loss of beloved traditions.

And of course when our loved one passes away, for most of us, the grief is considerable. Some people are unprepared for the force of the grief they experience. Others come through a time of grief reasonably well. There is no one way to grieve a loss, and each individual grieves in his or her own way.

At our hospice, we support our grieving families for 13 months following the death of their loved ones. Our bereavement support program offers many different types of support, hopefully offering just the type of help you need precisely when you need it. Here is a list of some of the bereavement care services we provide:

  • A weekly, drop-in grief group every Friday morning at Hancock Health in Greenfield. *
  • A biweekly, drop-in grief group Wednesday afternoons at Riverview Health in Noblesville. *
  • A private Facebook Suburban Hospice Grief Group where we post articles and inspirations for grieving family members.
  • Memorial services twice a year to honor and remember our loved ones.
  • Phone calls to check in on grieving family members.
  • Face-to-face grief support scheduled with individuals and families upon request. *
  • Mailings that provide education on grief and what helps during this difficult time.
  • A Mindfulness group offered twice a month to help participants find peace. Mindfulness can be a real help when we are experiencing the big swings of emotion so common during grief. *
  • A Guided Imagery group offered monthly that teaches techniques for using our imagination to calm stress and lessen upset. *
  • Yoga for Grief Relief, a gentle 6-week class focusing on overall wellness that is offered several times a year. *

Our experience and expertise shows us that people who are going through a time of grief do better when they have support and the opportunity to talk about their loved ones. We hope you’ll participate in whatever bereavement care services appeal most to you so that you have a sense of care and kindness as you grieve.
